Volkswagen Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a lightweight all-terrain five doors and five seats smaller than the Touareg.
It’s for sale with four engines, three petrol 150, 170 or 200 hp (the last two available since March 2008) and a 140 hp turbo. Later there will be a 170 hp diesel. There are three levels of equipment ( “Sport”, “Motion” and “Country”). Everyone has traction total and none reductive.
Other developments (since May 2008) are the possibility of requesting a suspension with variable damping hardness, a USB connection and the elimination of automatic change for version 2.0 TDI 140 hp.
The Tiguan is above the average for the quality of coating materials, or adjustments to the amount of equipment that can have. Some of the elements that may have are rare in cars such as the automatic parking system or the camera back.
We tested three versions of the Tiguan, the 150 petrol and 170 hp and 140 hp diesel.
The 170 hp gasoline we have tried to shift 6-speed Tiptronic automatic. With this combination, and according to our measurements, does not accelerate much more than the 150 hp and recoveries are somewhat worse. As far as it is better this engine is in the smooth functioning and that, at least with the Tiptronic automatic change, the march began MejOrR.
Comparing versions of gasoline and diesel 150 and 140 hp respectively, the Tiguan gasoline is preferable for benefits and because it makes less noise. The Diesel spends about 20 percent less than gasoline and has the best answer the city.
The Tiguan is available from € 31,730 (IST Tiguan 1.4 Sport 150 hp) to 39,200 € (IST Tiguan Motion 2.0 Tiptronic 200 hp).
The 140 hp diesel version has been marketed since 33,190 €. Of the entire field of size with a diesel engine of similar power, is more affordable than the BMW X3 2.0dy is priced very similar to a Land Rover Freelander 2 (160 hp). A Ford Kuga (136 hp), Jeep Compass (140 hp), a Toyota RAV 4 (136 hp) or a KIA Sportage (140 hp) have a lower starting price.
Of all these, Kuga, the Tiguan and X3 are the most recommendable for anyone who valued above all the answers on the road. Outside it, the model Volkswagen also can cope with a certain looseness provided that is not used in very rugged areas, for this use the Freelander 2 or Suzuki Grand Vitara are more effective.
The rear bench is split into two parts (60:40); moves lengthwise each 16 cm. The rear seat backs can vary inclination in a margin of 23 º, a system similar to that which has the Toyota RAV-4 and that is not available in the BMW X3 and Land Rover Freelander 2. Some versions have the backing of folding front passenger’s seat. There are also numerous holes varying in size, scattered throughout the passenger compartment.
The driving position is similar to that of a passenger car, with the difference that produces sitting go higher; striking the high left the dashboard. In front, high-class people can be accommodated without giving them the head with the roof. Behind the space for the legs is wide when the rear seat is in the rearmost position.
The boot has 395 litres capacity (picture) and, under the floor, is housed spare wheel. It is a wheel emergency (smaller than the other four). You can ask a team of repairing punctures instead of the spare wheel, which rises to 470 l capacity of the trunk.
More information about the passenger compartment in the impressions of the interior.
All engines are and have direct injection turbo. Gasoline engines are 150, 170 or 200 hp power. The 150-hp 1.4 litre engine capacity has (is a variant of 1.4 TSI of 140 hp and 170 who have other Volkswagen cars). The Tiguan petrol 170 and 200 hp engine carry a 2.0 litre engine capacity.
The Diesel give 140 and 170 hp power. Both engines are new: they have shot through common (1,800 bar) rather than pump-injector. The reason for the change is the need to reduce pollutant emissions: the two engines meet the Euro 5 emissions standard. Progressively, the Volkswagen Group is reeemplazando the old 2.0 TDI engine with a new injection system through common.
Alternatively, versions of gasoline with 170 hp and 200 may have an automatic change Tiptronic (hydraulic torque converter) with six speeds (up to May 2008 was also the Diesel with 140 hp.). Under no circumstances is available changing double clutch ‘DSG’ (more about why not have it).
All versions of the Tiguan have traction total Volkswagen called “4Motion” and fully automatic operation.
All versions have a button (off-road; image) next to the gear lever that allows you to toggle the response of various elements to facilitate the conduct outside the asphalt.
There is also a series of electric parking brake with a role in facilitating the start ramp (Autohold ‘), stability control and air bags front, side and front of the curtain; optionally, you can ask the rear side.
The dashboard of the Volkswagen Tiguan is very similar to that of a Golf Plus (among other details, has eight exits front ventilation), with minor differences in the buttons on the sound system and navigation. The door panels are specific to the Tiguan.
The standard equipment is plentiful. Thus, the level ‘Sport’ takes six air bags, stability control, button “Off-road, fog, two zones of climate control, computer system helps the start ramp, the automatic connection limpiaparabrias, supported by the Hinged co-pilot’s seat forward, chrome bars on the roof or 235/55/R17 tires.
The level ‘Motion’ adds to the above-xenon headlamps doubles, with lighting system active, developer of speed, seats upholstered in leather, heated front and regulation of the electrical conductor (the only passenger in height). The tyres are the same as the Sport (although the units sold before May 2008 were 235/50R18).
Among the elements of hardware that may have opcionalmene there is a panoramic roof, towing hook with a system of integration very interesting (picture and more information) or a browser with color touchscreen (6.5 “), hard disk 30-gb, SD card reader, auxiliary connection for MP3 players and DVD video playback (with the car stopped).
There are several schemes to parking: one that warns acoustically from the proximity of obstacles using ultrasonic sensors, one that also has a camera back with indications on the screen on the path of the vehicle and finally there is one able to park your car automatically.
The version “Country” is best placed to move about the countryside. It differs by the following distinctive features: the front bumper has a different design (picture) that gives an angle of attack of 28 th (instead of 18 th), carries a lower engine protection, protective side mouldings are the same colour as the bodywork and bars from the ceiling and the lamas of the radiator grille are black.
Outside the asphalt, advancing the Tiguan is limited by suspension of some routes little broad (185 mm front, 200 mm rear), some wheels for asphalt or absence of differential bloqueables manually. The angles characteristic (picture version of “Country”) and headroom (195 mm) are normal in a car of this type.
It also poses a problem in areas used by the abrupt absence of reductive, far smaller version of automatic change thanks to slip-torque converter. The manual gearbox is a first very short (6.69 mph / 1,000 rpm) but does not play the role of a reductive (or to accelerate or to retain the car in a fall).
The length of the bodywork is 4427 metres (version ‘Country’ measured 30 mm more than the front bumper). The width and height are 1,809 mm and 1,683 mm respectively. The torsional rigidity of chassis is 34,000 Nm / degree, a high value and above all other ground as a BMW X5 or a Range Rover.
The suspension is similar to that of the Golf Plus: independent in the four-wheel-type McPherson deformable front and rear side. There is a difference and that is subchasis the rear suspension is steel in the Tiguan, instead of the aluminum Golf Plus. Later there will be a variable damping (with three programs running), as I said one responsible for the development of the Touran, is electromagnetic type.
The disc brakes are: 312 mm front and 286 mm the rear. There are three measures of tires with tires from 16 to 18 “long and aluminium.
Volkswagen showed the final aspect of the Volkswagen Tiguan Concept Tiguan, in turn, some features of this prototype could be seen in Concept A.
