BMW M3 convertible
BMW will start selling a version of the M3 convertible. As the 3 Series convertible, has a retractable hardtop. The engine (420 hp V8), transmission and other mechanical elements are the same as in the M3 coupe or sedan with bodywork.

There is a big difference in weight between the coupe (which has a roof of carbon fiber) and this convertible. The retractable hardtop, the mechanisms that move and reinforcements needed in the structure of the car cause the weight of M3 convertible reaches 1,885 kg, 230 more than the coupe.
Due to this increase in weight and that of the aerodynamic drag it might have, benefits and consumption of convertible differ from those of the coupe. The only thing that remains unchanged is the maximum speed, which is limited to 250 km/h in both cases.
There are not many descapotables four places in this power level. The BMW 650i and Jaguar XKR Convertible are descapotables luxury, more costly and less cumbersome. The Audi RS4 is closer to that effect in this version of M3.
Like the other versions of descapotables Series 3, M3 convertible has a retractable hardtop in three pieces, it takes 22 s to open. Its operation is completely automatic and electricity, has no additional closure that has to manage manually. In addition, the roof can be manipulated from the remote control.

BMW M3 convertible
The engine of M3 is atmospheric, eight cylinders in V, 4.0 litre engine capacity and 420 hp. From what we’ve seen in the coupe version, is an engine that requires quick turn carry over 6,000 rpm to give the response is expected of a car of this power.
Despite this, we can move in a jam at 1,000 rpm in second gear without giving hitches or make strange noises. Its consumption is high.
The gearbox is a six-speed manual. The developments of transmission are the same as in the coupe.
It may be the new automatic gearbox Drivelogic seven speeds, increasing the acceleration and reduces consumption.
It is a box with pairs of gears, three axles and dual clutch, operating similar to Volkswagen’s DSG.

As in the coupe, there are several optional elements that affect driving. The M Drive allows varying the throttle response and the degree of assistance from the leadership. If the car carries the option of variable damping (EDC), also can be changed with the M Drive.
The stability control (DSC) can be switched off completely or partially in a manner that does not preclude a certain slippage before being put into operation.

The M3 convertible has all the traits that distinguish the M3 coupe other versions (except the roof of carbon). It can be painted with the colors of specific models M, Melbourne as red, black or Jerez Silverstone. The Cabrio also can be ordered white Alpine (the images), black and graphite.
There are versions descapotables of M3 since the first edition of this model. Previously, the roof was a tarpaulin.
